THE GOLDEN RULE

So my episode of All on the Line aired. Luckily it wasn't half as bad as I thought it'd be. I was really happy to finally see it and close the book on a stressful chapter of my life.

Then this happened http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/2011/05/all-on-the-line-season-1-episode-7-leila-shams.html

Noooooo! So embarrassing! I know this is naive but I assume people take reality shows with a grain of salt. When Bethenny Frankel talks about having a horrible childhood I google her parents (she didn't). My mom of course does not make my clothes, I've sold thousands of units. They're made in a factory in India (except the leather which is made in NY). She just helps me alter the sales samples when they come in. How do people think my mom made the beaded skirt or the embroidered dress? I've been in the industry for 13 years, Harvey Nichols, Curve, Elyse Walker, and Forward by Revolve have bought my line, Ke$ha, Keri Hilson, Fergie, and Kim Kardashian wear my clothes. And I bought my own fucking apartment. You can call me tacky all day long but don't call me dumb.

Anyway I'm so glad I read that post because it made me realize how upsetting it is to have people you don't know say mean things about you. I don't want to be one of those people. When I responded to the comments on the site in a positive way everyone was positive back. Negativity breeds negativity and vice versa. The bitchiest girl I know is also the least happy and least successful. So no more nasty posts! Honestly it's kind of a cop out - it's very easy to be entertaining when you're being a cunt. Baby steps!

  1. I love this! I love your positivity! You KNOW all the shit that has been written about me online along with the tons of shit people like to talk. It is so stressful when that happens especially when what they are spewing is wrong but you have to take it all and let it fuel you in a positive way. Look at me, I've OWNED my horse mouth comments. Neeeeeigh! I love you!

  2. I bookmarked your blog after seeing All On The Line, and reading Tom and Lorenzo....and the comments after. You handled the nasties brilliantly! I think it was good for the ones talking smack to get a *surprise!!!!!* response from the person they (some of them, anyway) were slamming.

You are right--it's easy to be clever when it's at someone else's expense. I admire your decision to NOT be clever like that. Guess at the end of the day there's always a human being there who's putting it out there, and deserves a little kindness and credit for it. (Talking about creative people here, NOT just anyone; I still reserve the right to be a c*** about Donald Trump and Newt Gingrich!)

  4. So... You say no more nasty posts, and then you close by calling Tom & Lorenzo 'cunts'? Seriously? I've read their post about your episode and they did not say anything nasty or unfair in it and they certainly did NOT use the word 'cunt'.

You say you don't want people to call you 'dumb', but I'm not sure how else one would describe someone who is trying to make their fashion business work, and who calls media who can send business their way 'cunts'. If not dumb, then definitely spoiled, immature and vulgar.

If you don't want people to comment on you or your career or your choices, etc, don't go on a reality show. It's laughable hypocritical of you to get your panties in a bunch over people judging you by what they see you present on TV, and in the same post pass judgement on someone else (ie; Bethenny Frankel who, btw, is clearly a much better business person than you. And you can't know what went on inside her childhood home by googling her parents.)
